New England Gorges & Waterfalls Day Tour
If you’re looking for an amazingly comprehensive guided tour of the best Gorges and Waterfalls in the NSW Armidale Region, then this is the day tour for you.
Starting in the spectacular town of Armidale in the New England High Country, you will experience scenic views and serene walking tracks, drive through some interesting forest trails and learn of the rich cultural and historic significance of the sites we visit.
We take care of all the planning, navigation, National Parks permits, 4WD guidance, safety, First Aid, emergency communications, morning tea, lunch and refreshments during the day. We’ll take you there and bring you home!
Although a 4WD vehicle is preferable for the tour, you may join the tour with a reliable 2WD vehicle (standard car/van/utility). (Call us for more information)
Itinerary
This is the basic tour schedule which can be customised to suit your requirements.
- Meet at a mutually agreed site and time in Armidale (Between 8 and 9am)
- Drive to the scenic Dangars Falls just outside Armidale
- Continue to the historic Gara Gorge (The first Hydro-Electricity Scheme in the Armidale region):
- Enjoy morning tea and refreshments here
- Visit the Bluehole lake & picnic area on the drive out
- Move on to Metz Gorge lookout to view the remains of the 1887 extraordinary Bakers Creek gold mine
- On the way out of Metz Gorge, stop off at the Bakers Creek Falls lookout
- Visit the historic mining town of Hillgrove- an 1884 antimony and gold mining town, which, in 1895, became the first town to be supplied with power by means of hydro-electricity operated from Gara Gorge
- Drive to Wollomombi Falls Day Area and visit some of the amazing lookouts:
- Main Falls Lookout
- Checks Lookout
- Eagle Lookout
- Edgards Lookout
- Continue on to Ebor Falls in the Guy Fawkes River NP to watch the Guy Fawkes river plunge 100m over two waterfalls- walk to visit the stunning lookouts
- On the drive back to Armidale, if time permits, we will visit Points Lookout in the New England NP. On a clear day, it offers panoramic views across World Heritage rainforest to the ocean in the distance.
- Finish off with a well-earned pub dinner in Armidale (Optional)

Tour Information:
This is an easy tour driving mainly on tarred roads with some off-road travel on unsealed roads suitable for 2WD vehicles (Sedans/Hatchbacks/SUV’s). Weather conditions may affect vehicle suitability for the tour. Experienced guidance will be provided at all times.

- Tour distance- Approximately 250Km
- Fuel required- min 25L/max 35L petrol/diesel
- Permits- Cost of NP permits included
- Meals/Refreshments- Morning tea, lunch and refreshments included (No alcohol)
- Drinking water- carry at least 2L per person for an unlikely emergency
- Communication-One 5W Hand Held radio will be provided for each vehicle
- Clothing- Be prepared to walk easy to moderate National Park trails, wear comfortable clothing and foot wear to suit, carry warm clothing & wet weather gear as appropriate

Tours will commence in Armidale, NSW, between 8 & 9am and conclude by 5pm in Armidale, NSW
Adults- $75 per person
Children- Two children 13 years and under- Free- $5 per additional child
Pub Dinner À la carte (Optional):
Adults- $25 per person (Excludes drinks)
Children 13 years and under- $15 each (Excludes drinks)

- Any State Seniors Card & APOD members discounts provided for Tour and Pub Dinner
- Group booking tour only discount- minimum 6 adults/maximum 12 adults – $65 per person (No other tour discounts apply)
- No payment is due until you are completely satisfied with the tour arrangements (Which is when we will confirm your booking for the tour & send you an invoice)
- Full payment is required at least 24h prior to commencement of the tour
- No refunds for cancellations within 24h of the scheduled commencement of the tour
